TIME

What the Constitution Means to Me is a play intentionally written to take place at two distinct times--the present and 1989 when Heidi was 15 years old. The evolving nature of politics and the courts has delivered us to this moment where "present" contains some stark contrasts with the time in which Schreck wrote the play.

After much discussion, the production team has chosen to set this play in THREE times:

-Present Day at the start of The Contest will be set in 2021.  This allows the characters to live in a less-of-COVID time but one in which Roe v. Wade is still law of the land (where we start on pages 1-3).

-The flashback parts of the play where Heidi relives her debates at age 15 will still be set in 1989.

-Inevitably, the question and answer period, where the audience gets involved, will find itself in actual present-day 2024.
