This play is an adaptation of the children's book by Kate DeCamillo. The scenic design concept was to create a magical backdrop for the stories and for the actors to use a series of found objects such as ladders, crates, and doors, to create the furniture for each location. (The top right photo shows the pieces as a bed; the bottom right shows the same items as a boat.) Scenic transitions were done by the actors, incorporated into their blocking. I coordinated with the director to design these shifts and then worked with my student assistants to create a tracking document for the actors so they could memorize these moves just as they do their blocking.

The show also includes a series of puppets, as well as several actors who play instruments live onstage.
